by Dr. James Seymour.
Raleigh, NC - Dr. James Seymour, head of the department of philosophy and religion at Saint Augustine's College, has written a new book titled Black History Through Blue Eyes: The Debt the World Owes to Africa.
Black History Through Blue Eyes focuses on the contribution of the people of Africa to the development of the Bible; the first 300 years of Christianity; the contributions to the development of Christianity by African-American religious pioneers; and the failure of white church members to stand with their brothers during the civil rights movement.
"I wrote this book to challenge the church community to break down the walls of racial separation and join hands together to make our communities and our world a better place," says Seymour. "I suggest several successful models of racial reconciliation in the final chapters that can do just that."
Seymour, who has spent virtually his entire adult life in cross-cultural and interracial service, is deeply committed to the principles of racial healing. He served as a missionary for 16 years, first among the Yupik Eskimos of Western Alaska and later in Zimbabwe, Africa. In addition to being a professor at Saint Augustine's College, he produces and hosts Issues of Life, a weekly television show examining life issues from a biblical worldview. He maintains a busy schedule, traveling and speaking at churches of all denominations throughout the southeast.
Black History Through Blue Eyes is published in cooperation with First Steps Ministries Inc., a nonprofit ministry that promotes racial reconciliation and cross-cultural understanding. All proceeds from the book benefit First Steps Ministries, to be used for seminars and workshops designed to foster racial reconciliation. Visit
